Well, we all have made our experiences with certificates.
In my last project I fired two Oracle Certified Professionals, because they proofed to be unable to do the job.
Then I recommended my client to contract Trivadis to do the primary job and I (not certified) did the daily routine on the Oracle DB.
Later I attended a little training course on Oracle 10gR2 essentials.
We all know, that it is able to pass a certification, having learned everything by heart while not understanding anything.
I believe it is more important to work on publications.
This is the only valid proof that the editor really posses up to date competence on professional topics and is able to apply them in a sensible manner. Here you can read first hand.
